Biographie

Chiara Croci holds a PhD in art history and archaeology, which she obtained in 2016 through a cotutelle between the University of Lausanne and the University of Münster.
She was a lecturer at the University of Münster in 2013, and a junior lecturer and lecturer at the University of Lausanne from 2013 to 2025. In addition, she has engaged in occasional teaching activities at the Universities of Switzerland (2017), Brno (2018) and Salerno (2019). A member of the Swiss Institute of Rome during her PhD (2012-2013), she has then been a post-doc researcher at the University of Brno (2018-2019) and a visiting scholar of the University of Tübingen (2023). She has held the Italian national habilitation as an associate professor since 2021 and obtained the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Research Management from the University of Bern in 2025.
Her scientific work to date has been mainly focused on the visual and material culture of the early Middle Ages, with particular attention paid to the function of works and objects in their context and, therefore, the relationship between them and the viewer. Building on these approaches, she has a keen interest in production conditions and techniques, encompassing conservation and restoration science, as well as archeometric studies.
